Is Mets manager Luis Rojas in over his head?
By John Buhler
New York Mets manager Luis Rojas might already be on the hot seat in The Big Apple.
While the New York Mets have a ton of talent on their roster, we have to wonder if skipper Luis Rojas is the right guy to manage them for the foreseeable future.
The Mets begin their road series at the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night at 11-11 on the year. New York was lucky to win on Sunday night vs. the Philadelphia Phillies, thanks to a controversial ruling on an extra-base hit by slugger Rhys Hoskins. All the while, Mets fans are starting to think Rojas is the one holding their team back. Should the Mets really consider moving off of him soon?
The Mets are too talented to be hovering around .500 in their second season under his leadership.
New York Mets: Should they move off manager Luis Rojas in the near future?
Right now, it is too early for the Mets to fire Rojas. This is Steve Cohen’s first season owning the franchise. We are only in the first week of May, meaning we have five more months left of regular-season baseball to be played this year. Last year was a strange anomaly, and we cannot really hold how 2020 went against Rojas. However, the Mets do need to fight for a postseason spot this year.
What is good news for Cohen, Rojas and the Mets is they play in what looks to be the weakest division in the Senior Circuit. Nobody in the NL East has a winning record and the two postseason teams from a year ago are below .500 in the Atlanta Braves and the Miami Marlins. While parting ways with Rojas now would be premature, if he is not the guy in August or September, then do it.
It is too early to fire Rojas, but he is not really helping his case for long-term stability in New York.
