MLB Power Rankings: St. Louis Cardinals picking up steam

The 2021 MLB season is rolling along, and as we head into the May slate, some teams are really starting to hit their stride.

We have officially entered May, which means the 2021 MLB season has gotten off to a good start, avoiding the COVID-19 pandemic shutting them down. In fact, we have not seen too many cancellations due to the virus, which is a good sign that this could be a more normal season than last year.

With that said, here are our latest 2021 MLB Power Rankings.

Once again, the Detroit Tigers come in as our No. 30 overall team in Major League Baseball, as they have not even won their tenth game yet. It is going to be a long season in the Motor City, and after losing ten of their last 11 games, you can be sure that a date with last place in the AL Central is assured this season.

The Colorado Rockies are once again the No. 29-ranked team on our weekly power rankings, and they have issues on the field, and in the front office. Colorado has been in a funk since trading away Nolan Arenado, and I do not see them getting it right before it is too late.

Miami has lost three straight and four of their last five, as they are just not hitting right now. Over the past three games, the Marlins have mustered only four runs as a team, and while the pitching has been solid, nobody is going to win with an offense this anemic.

The Minnesota Twins have won four of their last five, and maybe it is time for them to get hot and start making some noise in the AL Central. They have been mashing the ball, scoring at least nine runs in three of their last five games, and Nelson Cruz is a monster, hitting close to .400 with eight home runs and 21 runs batted in.

At the beginning of the 2021 MLB season, many thought that the Chicago Cubs would be one of the best teams in the NL Central, but it has not played out that way. They have won two of their last seven games, and have recently placed Jake Arrieta, Nico Hoerner, and Dan Winkler on the IL.

Here comes the Baltimore Orioles, as they have won four of their last five games, and are inching towards the .500 mark. Baltimore is getting solid pitching, and winning on the road, and could be one of the more surprising stories in the MLB before all is said and done.

The Texas Rangers are in dead last in the AL West, and I really do not see them making any noise anytime soon, especially with the rest of the division playing well. Nick Solak has been a bright spot at the dish, posting a batting average near .300, while also leading the team with seven home runs.

It looks as if the Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals are going to be in the mix for the NL Central, leaving the Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates in their wake. The Pirates have lost five straight games, are tied with the Cubs for last place, and just are not hitting right now.

What is going on with the Atlanta Braves? The team that nearly made it to the World Series last season has been downright disappointing in 2021, and cannot seem to play consistent baseball for extended periods of time. They have the talent to turn things around, but they need to start getting it in gear as we start the month of May.

Another NL East team that has been struggling as of late is the Philadelphia Phillies, who witnessed star outfielder Bryce Harper get rocked by a 97 MPH fastball in the face this past week. Philadelphia has lost three of their last five, but despite a record below .500, they are a half-game out of first.
