The Cowboys made several notable mistakes during the 2021 NFL Draft.

The big story for the Dallas Cowboys this offseason was finally signing Dak Prescott to his long-awaited major extension. But questions remained all over the roster.

Defense was a particular point of concern so the Cowboys decided to take eight defenders in the draft. But mistakes emerged and some were more head-scratching than others.

3. Helping the rival Eagles

The Cowboys decided to totally shake up the draft by trading back with the Philadelphia Eagles. This helped the Eagles land receiver DeVonta Smith and led to the Chicago Bears trading up for Justin Fields. The Cowboys ended up with Micah Parsons.

The weird part was the Cowboys helping the Eagles and hurting the New York Giants in the process. But why would they help the Eagles land their new number one receiver?

Dallas did land a third-round pick in the process and the Giants likely would have snagged Smith if the Eagles did not.

The Cowboys also did not land a top secondary player early in the first round. So ultimately, the Eagles got an elite prospect for Jalen Hurts and the Cowboys did not get someone to cover him. This remains a questionable trade, to say the least.
