Alabama football head coach Nick Saban had the perfect comeback for Texas A&M’s Jimbo Fisher’s pledge to beat him before he retires.

It’s been eight years since Texas A&M beat Alabama football. If Jimbo Fisher keeps poking the beast, the streak will continue to grow.

The fact is, you shouldn’t mess with Nick Saban because he has a way of coming out on top.

That applies to trash talk, by the way.

When Fisher pledged to “beat his ass” before he retires, he opened the door for an epic Saban comeback.

What does Saban think about Fisher’s challenge to beat him?

“In golf?” Saban responded.

Nick Saban beats Jimbo Fisher, even in wordplay

It’s clear that Saban and Fisher have a ton of respect for each other. Both followed up their statements with praise for the job each has done in their coaching careers.

Still, it’s fun to see them rile up the rivalry a bit.

It would be perfectly fine for Alabama if Texas A&M continued to prove incapable of getting one over on the Crimson Tide.

A&M punched Alabama in the mouth when they first joined the SEC, but Saban hasn’t lost to them since. It’s not only that. The games really haven’t been that close.

Last year, Alabama won 52-24. The closest Fisher has come to knocking off the Tide was a 19-point loss in 2019.

The Aggies improving under Fisher, at least. After stagnating under Kevin Sumlin, the new staff went 9-4 in 2018 and 8-5 in 2019. They took another step forward by going 9-1 in 2020.

The 2021 season might be a prime time for Texas A&M to strike with quarterback Mac Jones, Heisman winner DeVonta Smith and a bunch of other Tide stars moving onto the NFL. Then again, Saban keeps finding ways to reinvent his team.
