While the Kansas City Chiefs have made some great moves in the offseason, they weren’t perfect in the 2021 NFL Draft.

What an offseason it’s been for the Kansas City Chiefs and general manager Brett Veach. The signings, especially for the offensive line, have been nothing short of outstanding. At the same time, there were some questionable moves made in the NFL Draft that upset fans.

Which decisions have stood out the most? We take a look at that in this piece, offering up our take on three mistakes the team indeed made.

3 mistakes the Chiefs made in the 2021 NFL Draft

3. Taking LB Nick Bolton over WR Terrace Marshall Jr.

With the Chiefs’ first selection in the draft, Kansas City was on the clock at No. 58 overall. Fans were hopeful that Veach and Co. would go out and get a stud wideout with that first pick. With Sammy Watkins joining the Baltimore Ravens, the thought of a stud rookie receiver sure was exciting.

Kansas City decided to go in another direction, though, and drafted Missouri linebacker Nick Bolton. While Bolton could prove to be a stud starter in this league, linebacker really didn’t feel like a position of need early on for the Chiefs. This was an area they most certainly could have focused on later in the draft.

To make matters worse for the Chiefs supporters, standout LSU wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. was taken by the Carolina Panthers with the very next pick. Marshall was there for the taking at No. 58, but Kansas City passed on him. This is something that was tough to swallow.

Imagine Marshall catching the ball from sensational signal-caller Patrick Mahomes. It could have really made the Chiefs offense that much more explosive. Unfortunately, Veach went in a different direction. Let’s hope he doesn’t go on to regret that next winter.
