Florida football: 3 former Gators who need an NFL team in 2021
Former Florida football stars in the NFL are still looking for homes in 2021 as the free agency carousel continues to spin.
Florida football fans got to enjoy seeing eight former Gators selected in the 2021 NFL Draft, including first-rounders Kyle Pitts and Kadarius Toney.
Those two represent the future of Florida in the NFL, but other players are still trying to be part of the present.
Attention now turns to the former Florida players who have yet to sign with a team in free agency. Who are they?
Trey Burton
Burton did it all at Florida, playing just about every role there is on offense. That wasn’t enough to get him drafted in 2014, but the former undrafted free agent has carved out a solid NFL career nonetheless.
He’s now entering his eighth season as a pro. At least, he’s looking to.
The tight end spent 2020 with the Colts, but they aren’t looking to re-sign him for 2021. That’s left him without a place to play for the time being.
There are teams out there who could use a veteran tight end like Burton. There are concerns about his injury record and inconsistency. However, that shouldn’t stop him from going somewhere and contributing. It’s just a matter of finding the right spot.
