Former LSU football player TJ Finley is entering the transfer portal after one college season.

After having had more starts under center last year than any other Bayou Bengal signal-caller, quarterback TJ Finley is transferring out of the LSU football program by way of the transfer portal.

Finley went 2-3 in his five starts for the 2020 LSU Tigers. Finley led LSU in quarterback starts and had wins over Arkansas and South Carolina but lost his starts vs. Alabama, Auburn and Texas A&M.

His stat line last year was completing 80-of-140 passes for 941 yards, five touchdowns and five interceptions. While initially replacing an injured Myles Brennan mid-season, Finley was replaced by freshman Max Johnson.

Where could LSU transfer quarterback TJ Finley end up?

Finley was a former three-star recruit out of Ponchatoula, Louisiana in the 2020 class. He had 15 official offers coming out of high school, including from Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, Georgia, Louisville, Mississippi State and Ole Miss. Since last year does not count in terms of eligibility, Finley will have four years left to play anywhere he chooses to go.

Look for Finley to draw major interest from Power 5 and Group of 5 teams in the southern part of the United States, perhaps including the two SEC Mississippi schools that offered him out of high school.

As for what this means for LSU, it signifies how the depth chart could be shaking out. Finley transferring means Brennan and Johnson are ahead of him after spring practice. He may have fallen to fourth on the depth chart behind freshman Garrett Nussmeier, too. The starting quarterback job is expected to be decided between Brennan who opened last season as the starter and Johnson who closed the season as the starter.

Finley will be a hot commodity in the transfer portal, but it is too early to know where he will land, but expect him to make a decision on his future in the coming weeks so he can enroll in time to compete at his new program.
