Tyler Lockett thinks Russell Wilson drama was blown out of proportion

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett says the drama between quarterback Russell Wilson and the team was blown out of proportion.
The Seattle Seahawks had an eventful start to their offseason with the various reports of quarterback Russell Wilson being frustrated with the organization. That escalated into Wilson’s agent giving his four trade destinations if he were to move on from the Seahawks, but stressing that the signal-caller still wanted to stay with the team. But, things have thus settled down and Wilson appears very happy with the moves Seattle has made in the new league year.
In an exclusive interview with FanSided, Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett said that the reported drama between Wilson and the team was blown out of proportion.
“I think it blew up a lot,” said Lockett. “I think, in the game of football, you know that everybody’s going to talk and everybody needs something to talk about. Like, just as our job is to play football and other people’s job to do other things, you have some people’s job is to talk and give their opinions and the best story that they could be able to tell and sell to anybody. And so I think for us as players, the biggest thing that this league has taught us is you have to be focused on yourself, that’s really all you can do. You can’t get caught up in the drama. You can’t get caught up in the he-say, she-say because you may never know what’s going on. Because it has nothing to do with you. It has everything to do with somebody else and somebody else, or a team or whoever.
“For me, it was just about trying not to get into all of that, even though you hear it all the time on TV or social media, or now fans hitting you up on social media asking you questions, but you have to be able to focus on your life. And for me, that’s what I wanted to be able to do, and luckily, I’ve been able to stay in Seattle for an extra four years. It’s just about getting better every single day and whoever is on the team, that’s who you go to war with.”
Seahawks: Tyler Lockett says Russell Wilson-Seattle drama was blown out of proportion
The start of the drama began after Wilson publicly stated that he is tired of being hit frequently by opposing defenses, as he was sacked a grand total of 394 times in his career. Shortly thereafter, reports detailed the beef between Wilson and the coaching staff. Finally, a tweet from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter noted that Wilson would accept a trade (if it were considered) to either the Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, Las Vegas Raiders or Chicago Bears if he wanted out of Seattle.
Now, the drama has subsided, and everything appears to be fine between quarterback and team. That was evident based off Wilson’s social media reactions on the team’s signings this offseason. From bringing in former Raiders offensive guard Gabe Jackson, to bringing back the likes of defensive end Carlos Dunlap and running back Chris Carson. Oh yes, there was also a celebratory tweet for Lockett, whom had just signed a four-year, $69 million contract extension with the team, as he mentioned in our interview.
Lockett has played in all but one regular-season game since joining the Seahawks. In 2020, Lockett recorded a career-high 100 receptions for 1,054 yards and 10 touchdowns. Overall, the wideout has 376 catches for 4,892 yards and 37 touchdowns.
With the Wilson-Seahawks saga done, the team is set on the upcoming season, where they hope to make a return to the Super Bowl. As for quarterback drama, that now resides in Green Bay between the Packers and Aaron Rodgers.
