The player the White Sox should demote

Codi Heuer had a great rookie run in 2020 with an ERA of 1.52 in 23.2 innings pitched. He looked like a bright young pitcher for the club. It’s just a shame his hot streak hasn’t continued.

The 24-year-old reliever has given up 21 hits in 13.1 innings pitched this season with a horrendous ERA of 6.08.

Heuer’s most recent appearance was particularly disastrous. He came in for the top of the seventh inning against the Indians and proceeded to give up four hits, including a home run. Cleveland scored three runs to go up 5-0.

There is still plenty of potential in Heuer, but he hasn’t been able to work his way through these recent troubles. He’s a young pitcher who has hit a rough patch. It’s not the end of his career, but it is an issue for the White Sox in 2021.

It would be better for him and the team to send him down to figure it out. Chicago would certainly rather have him take his lumps in Birmingham.
