Two ex-Lakers players send bold message to team ahead of NBA Playoffs
By Josh Hill
Isaiah Thomas and Quinn Cook are poking the Los Angeles Lakers, offering up their services ahead of the NBA Playoffs.
As the lights being to go up on the NBA Playoffs, the Los Angeles Lakers might want to do a mic check.
Once seemingly unstoppable in the Western Conference, the Lakers have fallen hard and are limping into the playoffs rather than controlling the board. Injuries have punctured the momentum Los Angeles built up earlier in the year, as LeBron James and Anthony Davis being out of the lineup for most of the season has had exactly the negative effect you’d expect.
Los Angeles is going to barely win 40-games this year, and are clinging to life on the other side of the new playoff play-in format. There’s a very real chance that Los Angeles goes from winning the NBA Finals less than a year ago to being forced to play in the NBA’s version of a wild card matchup to defend its crown.
This has not wrapped fans in a straight jacket of anxiety, but has former players crawling out of the woodwork to offer up their help in the form of thinly-veiled digs.
Lakers News: Isaiah Thomas has bold message for team ahead of playoffs
Former Lakers guard Isaiah Thomas, who is a free agent at the moment, has been watching the team and thinks he knows what is missing.
The replies from Lakers fans were mixed, from agreement with Thomas to extreme lack of amusement or enthusiasm.
In short, Lakers fans are taking this current journey into treacherous waters about as calmly and even-keeled as one would expect.
Thomas isn’t the only player watching the Lakers who thinks he can help. Quinn Cook chimed in on the thread and doubled down on Thomas’ self-invitation to help Los Angeles.
During last year’s shortened stint with the Wizards, Thomas averaged 12.2 points on 40.8 percent shooting. He remained unemployed until signing a 10-day contract with the New Orleans Pelicans this season but did little to make a meaningful contribution.
Cook was waived by the Lakers back in February and managed to land two 10-day contracts from the Cleveland Cavaliers before returning to the free agent pool.
Neither player seems like an impactful missing piece of a championship puzzle. However fans slamming the panic button after the Lakers’ fall from the top of the West have rose-colored glasses for just about anyone who might provide some sort of relief as the playoffs near.
