New York Mets fans everywhere are seriously starting to worry about the injury for star pitcher Jacob deGrom.

After having his last two starts pushed back due to injury, Jacob deGrom got on the bump on Sunday looking to silence the opposition. Instead, the worst possible outcome occurred, with deGrom having to leave the action early with an injury.

To make things worse for the New York Mets, deGrom is headed for an MRI on a new injury, per skipper Luis Rojas. Could a trip to the Injured List be on the way for the superstar hurler?

The Mets may end up having to put Jacob deGrom on the Injured List

Last week, deGrom’s start got pushed back because of a lat injury. Now, he’s dealing with side tightness and he’ll have an MRI to determine the severity of that injury. Goodness. Obviously, any injury for a starter is concerning, but we’re talking about deGrom here.

He’s without question one of the best pitchers in all of MLB. On the year, he’s 3-2 with an insane 0.68 ERA. When the Mets are able to get him some run support, it feels like the team is set for a win whenever deGrom is on the bump.

In Sunday’s showdown with Arizona, deGrom was cruising but felt discomfort heading into the sixth inning. You could tell he knew something was up, and the call was made to have him not try and push things.

Mets fans will now be patiently waiting to find out just how serious this injury is for deGrom. If the baseball gods are listening to the countless folks in Flushing, then he won’t miss extended time and will be able to rock for his next scheduled start. Right now, though, that feels very much up in the air.
