Nolan Arenado makes Rockies regret ever trading him in 1 sequence (Video)
Cardinals’ third baseman Nolan Arenado got one over on his former team with a great defensive play and a home run on his next at-bat.
The moment the Rockies traded Nolan Arenado to the Cardinals in February, you could circle the series between the teams as an important stretch for the third baseman.
On Sunday, Arenado made sure Colorado was very aware of what they gave up by showing off his quality on defense and at the plate.
It started with a backhanded stop and throw to deny Trevor Story a base. As the next batter up at the bottom of the second, he took one deep.
You can bet Arenado enjoyed that one. He didn’t exactly leave Colorado on good terms.
Nolan Arenado made the Rockies pay
Arenado was a five-time All-Star with the Rockies, but his relationship with the club soured ahead of the 2020 season. When trade rumors swirled, the infielder made it very clear he had issues with the organization.
“There’s a lot of disrespect from people there that I don’t want to be a part of,” Arenado told Thomas Harding of MLB.com.
He played the 2020 season in Colorado, then waived his no-trade clause in February to allow the Rockies to send him to St. Louis in a deal involving six players and $50 million.
Arenado had two hits, including a double and one run in his first appearance against his old team on Friday. On Saturday, he added another double and a run. St. Louis won both outings.
Sunday’s performance outdid the other two by giving the Cardinals their first two runs of the game early.
This season, Arenado is batting .282/.343.496 while proving a worthwhile investment for the NL Central-leading Cardinals.
As for the Rockies, they’re dead last in the NL West and have the second-worst record in baseball.
