Just how many former Texas football stars will feature on NFL rosters in 2021? That all depends on whether a few free agents find their place.
Texas football added five alums to the NFL ranks on draft weekend, with Samuel Cosmi, Joseph Ossai, Ta’Quon Graham, Caden Sterns and Sam Ehlingrer finding new homes in the pros.
The ranks of Longhorns in the NFL could shrink or grow this season further depending on what happens to former Texas players who are now free agents.
Malik Jefferson recently penned a deal with the Colts. Others will want to follow.
Which Texas football alums are still looking for NFL teams?
3. Kenny Vaccaro
Kenny Vaccaro followed up his All-American season with Texas in 2012 by landing with the Saints as the No. 15 pick in the 2013 draft. Since then, he’s been a solid NFL safety in New Orleans and Tennessee. After starting 42 games in three years with the Titans, he’s on the open market.
Many teams could use Vaccaro’s support against the run, but he may be finding it hard to land somewhere new because of his deficiencies in pass defense.
There are also other quality safeties on the market like Tre Boston and Malik Hooker, who will be vying for attention from interested teams.
Still, anyone looking for a safety to operate in the box could take a look at Vaccaro as a veteran option.
