Padres facing COVID-19 problem with Eric Hosmer and others headed to IL
The San Diego Padres unfortunately have a bit of a COVID-19 issue going on in the clubhouse, with Eric Hosmer among the standouts headed to the Injured List because of it.
Unfortunately for the San Diego Padres, the club is facing plenty of COVID-19 adversity right now. Several players have been removed from the clubhouse and sent to the Injured List due to either testing positive or being a close contact.
On Wednesday, it was announced that standout first baseman Eric Hosmer has been added to the IL. With Hosmer, he’s been a close contact and he hasn’t actually tested positive for the virus. While that’s good news, he’ll still need to be away from the team for a little while.
A good chunk of Padres players are out of the lineup due to COVID-19 protocols
With nearly half of the Padres’ position players out, things are surely getting pretty darn tricky for skipper Jayce Tingler. Fans went into a bit of panic mode when it was just announced too that Fernando Tatis Jr. had tested positive. Luckily, though, he’s asymptomatic and isn’t feeling sick.
The hope is that he can quarantine, get himself fully healthy and then record multiple negative tests so he can rejoin his teammates on the field. For Hosmer, his removal from the club is a precaution, as the last thing anyone would want is for him to end up actually having the virus and then giving it to others.
For now, San Diego and Tingler will need to move forward without several key players able to make their usual brilliant plays for the team. However, the hope is that soon enough, everyone will be back and the club can make some noise in the extremely competitive NL West.
