Heat announce season-ending knee surgery for prized addition Victor Oladipo
The Miami Heat did not get much out of their top trade target, and now Victor Oladipo be out for the postseason due to surgery.
The Miami Heat are back in the postseason and remain in a fight for the No. 4 seed as the regular season comes to a close. Unfortunately, the team also received some bad news.
Victor Oladipo joined the Heat in late March via trade and played in a total of four games before being held out by an injury. That knee injury is now requiring surgery and Oladipo has been ruled out for the year.
Heat lose Victor Oladipo after limited action
This news can be received in several ways. Oladipo was a nice acquisition at the trade deadline and his absence is notable. However, he’s rarely played with the team so far, so it’s not like a key contributor has been taken out of the lineup.
The injury is still a bummer for Oladipo, the Heat and fans of the game. Oladipo is a fun player and he landed on the defending Eastern Conference champions after a short stint with the lowly Houston Rockets.
Now the attention turns to the offseason, when Oladipo will be a free agent. He seemed to initially desire a move to Miami, so it would make sense if he and the team work something out early this summer. That will also depend on his recovery from this upcoming surgery.
The Heat still have a healthy Jimmy Butler, and that will keep them in contention. Add in a young core that reached the Finals last year and the team should still be in great shape with or without Oladipo.
