The Green Bay Packers have signed veteran quarterback Blake Bortles and that’s not going to jack up any fan out there.

Haven’t Green Bay Packers fans suffered enough this offseason? With Aaron Rodgers potentially retiring this offseason, or at least sitting out the 2021 campaign due to his beef with the front office, it looks like general manager Brian Gutekunst is ready to add some quarterback depth just in case.

So, he’s gone out and signed… Blake Bortles? According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, that’s exactly the case, with the two sides agreeing to a deal. Goodness.

Blake Bortles signing with the Green Bay Packers feels like a slap in the face

No disrespect to Bortles, but come on. After the former first-round pick proved he couldn’t be a starter with the Jacksonville Jaguars, he enjoyed short stays with the Los Angeles Rams and Denver Broncos over the past two years. He hasn’t appeared in a regular season game since 2019.

Now, Bortles is headed to Green Bay to join Rodgers and second-year signal-caller Jordan Love. If Rodgers ends up returning to the Packers, Bortles has practice squad written all over him, or he’ll probably end up getting himself cut. All eyes leading up to Week 1 will indeed be on Rodgers to see what decision he ultimately makes.

The future Hall-of-Fame quarterback is coming off an MVP campaign, but the drama between him and the front office doesn’t look like it’s going to end in the near future. Various reports have surfaced stating the relationship is too damaged to be repaired, which has brought unmeasurable amounts of anxiety and sadness for the Green Bay faithful in recent weeks. This latest Bortles update surely isn’t going to change that at all. If anything, it makes things much worse.
