Braves give injury update on Ronald Acuña
The Atlanta Braves had a positive update for Ronald Acuña after he left Thursday’s game against the Blue Jays with an apparent ankle injury.
It just wasn’t Atlanta’s day on Thursday.
The Braves lost to the Blue Jays, 8-4, while watching outfielders Ronald Acuña and Cristian Pache leave the game with injuries.
On the plus side, Atlanta can rest easy about Acuña after an update from manager Brian Snitker after the game.
X-rays on Acuña’s ankle came back negative. He is now day-to-day, per Justin Felder of Fox 5 Sports.
The news was less positive for center fielder Cristian Pache, who is heading to the injured list with a hamstring problem. He left the game in the third inning because of tightness.
Ronald Acuña gave the Braves an injury scare
Acuña injured his ankle in the seventh inning when he stepped on the bag awkwardly as he sprinted to make it to first base on an infield hit. The Braves led 4-3, but the outfielder gave it everything he had to avoid an out at first base. He was eventually ruled out and the inning ended.
Before his exit, Acuña hit a home run to lead off the first inning.
The 23-year-old is having an excellent start to the season. He leads MLB with 11 home runs, 32 runs and 80 total bases. He’s batting .304/.403/.640. Basically, he’s playing like the MVP contender he is.
Now that he’s day-to-day, Atlanta just needs to hope he can come back healthy and strong. They need him to help break out of their three-game losing streak. They’ve now been swept by Toronto twice in the last two weeks, falling to 17-20.
Next up, they’ll play at Milwaukee on Friday. We’ll have to wait and see if Acuña can get back to playing this weekend.
