Udonis Haslem’s only appearance of the season was absolutely legendary (Video)
Miami Heat veteran Udonis Haslem added to his legend when he took the court for the first time this season, only to be ejected after three minutes.
Udonis Haslem has made 859 appearances for the Miami Heat over the last 18 seasons. The latest one might be his greatest.
It’s certainly among his most memorable.
Haslem took the court against the Philadelphia 76ers with a minute left in the first quarter. Three minutes of game time later, the veteran was gone.
Dwight Howard started it by throwing Haslem to the ground. Words were shared. A shove followed. Both players got a technical while Haslem was ejected for making contact with Howard’s face.
What an eventful three minutes.
Haslem’s official box score reads like this: 3 minutes, 4 points, 1 rebound, 2-2 FG.
You’d think Haslem would be the cooler head as an 18-year vet, but he might have just been overeager after getting into a game for the first time this season. He last played on Aug. 14, 2020, the last day of the regular season.
Udonis Haslem is the oldest player in Heat history
The appearance on Thursday made Haslem the oldest player to take the court for the Heat at 40 years and 338 days. He overtook Juwan Howard, who made his final appearance at 40 years and 63 days old in 2013.
Haslem may want to see action when Miami battles the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday and Detroit Pistons on Sunday to close out the regular season.
Let’s be real, though. Everyone would be better off if his season stat line remains exactly as it is. Those three minutes are perfect the way they are. There’s no way he could top it.
The Heat are battling for playoff position, so these games do matter. Miami is 38-31 with the Atlata Hawks half a game ahead in the No. 4 seed and the New York Knicks behind, but even in wins as the No. 6 seed.
