Indians broadcaster called Jose Ramirez’s league-leading home run perfectly (Video)
Cleveland Indians broadcaster Rick Manning had the perfect call for Jose Ramirez’s 11th home run of the season, predicting it before it even happened.
There’s a reason NFL fans love Tony Romo. It’s just awesome when a broadcaster successfully predicts the future.
That’s what Indians broadcaster Rick Manning pulled on Thursday as Cleveland battled the Mariners.
“You know he’s going to pull it. If he hits it hard and you make a mistake, he’s going to hit it to right field, no doubt.” Manning said as Jose Ramirez prepared to take a pitch from Logan Gilbert.
Spoiler alert: He hit it into right field.
“Like that.”
When you get a call that right, you get to do a victory lap.
Jose Ramirez owns the American League lead in home runs
That 361-foot blast into right field was Ramirez’s 11th of the season. He’s now top of the home run charts in the American League and one behind Ronald Acuña Jr. for the MLB lead.
Ramirez had a bright 2020 season. He’s carried that momentum into 2021 with an eye on once again competing for MVP honors. He’s been in the Top 3 for AL MVP voting in three of the last four years. Last year he came second to Jose Abreu.
So far, Ramirez ranks second in AL win probability added and third in at-bats per home run. His offensive WAR of 1.4 is 10th in the league.
Thanks in part to Ramirez’s timely hitting contributions, Cleveland is on a three-game winning streak with eight victories in their last nine games.
Coming off a 3-1 series with the Reds, they’re back on the road for a four-game series in Seattle. Ramirez hitting that bomb put them up 4-0 in the third inning and well on their way to another win.
