Top Seattle Mariners prospect Jarred Kelenic blasted his first major league hit for a two-run home run to prove the hype was very worth it.

Who cares that Jarred Kelenic went hitless in his Thursday debut for the Mariners?

He more than made up for it on Friday by smashing his first-ever MLB hit right into the stands.

That’s hit No. 1, home run No. 1 and RBI No. 1 and 2 for the promising Seattle prospect.

Kelenic made his major league debut on Thursday, going 0-for-4 with one strikeout. He didn’t take the blank outing to heart, coming back with a picture-perfect first hit.

Seattle fans are looking forward to even more as he settles into the majors at long last.

Jarred Kelenic showed a glimpse of the future for the Mariners

The Mariners are staking their future on prospects like Kelenic, who was the No. 6 pick in the 2018 MLB Draft. The Mets grabbed him, then ended up trading him to Seattle in 2019 for Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz.

There aren’t many prospects better than him, in perception at least. MLB.com ranked him No. 4 in their 2021 prospect rankings, with fellow Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez at No. 5.

Expectations are high for the 21-year-old, who is seen as a five-tool player with superstar potential. If he keeps making contact like that, he’ll get to that level soon enough.

The home run on Friday gave the Mariners a 3-0 lead over the Indians in the third inning. They need that kind of output to snap a five-game losing streak. Seattle is 18-20, but still standing in third place in the AL West.

With Kelenic now being integrated into the lineup, hopes for a more competitive future finally look real.
