Mike McCarthy said the Dallas Cowboys expect to have Dak Prescott back by training camp, which is great news for the entire NFL.

Prescott suffered a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle early last season, which forced him to miss the remainder of the campaign and this offseason. His rehabilitation has been going well, so well in fact that the Cowboys expect him to be a full participant in training camp.

“He’ll do most things,” Mike McCarthy said, per ESPN. “There’s a plan in place that’s coordinated with [athletic trainers Britt Brown and Jim Maurer] and the training room so I know he feels really good. He’s really had some excellent workouts here in the last couple weeks. I’d see him doing most of the work.”

Could Dak Prescott lead the Cowboys to the playoffs this season?

The NFC East is such a dud that the Cowboys could enter the 2021 season as the presumed favorites. With Prescott leading the way and a new defensive system under defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, it should be expected that the Cowboys have a better showing than their 2020 6-10 mark.

Prescott’s rapid recovery, which has him on pace to return by July, has McCarthy especially excited.

“I have no reason not to think that,” McCarthy said Saturday. “I think this week in Phase 2 will be a nice step in that direction.”

In the end, expect the Cowboys offense to remain a respectable bunch, especially with the star power at the skill positions and (for the most part) up front. The defense remains a question, however, despite some of the offseason additions and the decision to bring in Quinn.
