Steph Curry joins Michael Jordan in record books with 2020-21 scoring title

Any time a player joins Michael Jordan in the record books, it’s a good thing. On Sunday it was Steph Curry’s turn as he won the scoring title.

Curry’s name has become synonymous with the three-point shot, but let’s not forget how great of an all-around scorer he can be. Steph won the scoring title for the 2020-21 season, averaging an astonishing 31.8 points per game entering Sunday. He clinched the scoring title with this bucket against Memphis.

What’s most impressive with Curry’s campaign is that he’s doing it all without Klay Thompson. Again. Steph hasn’t had his running mate in the backcourt for two seasons, yet the Warriors have found a way to gel around him. It’s Draymond Green, an intriguing James Wiseman and some spare parts.

Curry and Michael Jordan are the only players to win the scoring title over 33 years of age. It’s a young man’s game, but Steph is outplaying all the kids this season, leading the Warriors to the play-in tournament and perhaps further.

So, as you can see, the odds were always slim heading into the final game. But, had Beal returned from injury and put up a 50-spot, then perhaps Curry would’ve had something to think about.

When Jordan was 33, he was finishing off the second of three straight championships. The odds are against the Warriors winning it all this year, but for now Curry can dream given the similarities between the two.

The future Hall of Famer has a significant case for MVP, even if he doesn’t win the award in the end.
