Huascar Ynoa breaks his hand in the Atlanta Braves’ dugout after a frustrating start Sunday.
On today’s episode of 2021 not being the Atlanta Braves‘ year, right-hander Huascar Ynoa will miss the next few months after breaking his hand in the dugout after Sunday’s rough outing.
Ynoa had been one of the Braves’ better starters this season. However, he only went 4.1 innings, allowing nine hits and five earned runs in Atlanta’s 10-9 road loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. For a team that has not gotten good pitching out of its two big free-agent acquisitions in Charlie Morton or Drew Smyly, Ynoa’s hot start is now a distant memory, as he takes a trip onto the IL.
It happens annually, but baseball players have to stop punching walls with their dominant hands.
The #Braves today placed RHP Huascar Ynoa on the 10-day injured list with a fractured right hand and recalled RHP Edgar Santana from Triple-A Gwinnett.

#Braves Snitker announced Huascar Ynoa got frustrated in his outing yesterday, punched the dugout bench & broke his right hand. Said he expects him to be down a couple months & will then have to be stretched back out. "It's a shame. I hate it for him."

Huascar Ynoa to miss a few months after punching the Atlanta Braves’ dugout
Not only have Morton and Smyly struggled, but Mike Soroka’s rehabilitation from a torn Achilles has not gone over swimmingly either. Ynoa had been a bright spot in Atlanta’s rotation, along with Ian Anderson pitching well in his second big-league season, as well as Max Fried’s solid return from the IL. Unfortunately, the Braves bullpen has been a bigger dumpster fire than the rotation.
The good news for the Braves is the offense has started to come alive. Atlanta plays great defense and can put pressure on the opposition on the base path. However, they are not going to win multiple postseason series with the way their pitching staff has performed. It has to improve if they want to win the NL East again. Sadly, it does not feel like a World Series is coming in 2021.
Ynoa unfortunately let his frustrations boil over in Milwaukee, and he has paid a steep price for it.
