Kyle Schwarber knows Wrigley Field return vs. Cubs could get chippy
By John Buhler
Kyle Schwarber returns to the Friendly Confines for the first time wearing another uniform.
Prior to this season, Washington Nationals outfielder Kyle Schwarber had spent his entire MLB career with the Chicago Cubs.
Chicago used the No. 4 overall pick in the 2014 MLB Amateur Draft to draft the left-handed slugger out of Indiana University. While Schwarber’s tenure in Chicago was marred by struggling to find a position in the field for him, as well as consistency at the plate in his latter years on the North Side, he was part of the core that helped the Cubbies win the World Series back in 2016.
He anticipates this could get a little interesting on Monday night in his Wrigley Field return.

Even if he plays for another club in the Senior Circuit, Schwarber still has plenty of friends on this team. He won a World Series playing alongside guys like Jake Arrieta, Javy Baez, Kris Bryant, Jason Heyward and Anthony Rizzo. However, neither the Cubs or the Nationals have gotten off to hot starts this season. Whoever plays worse in this early-week series could be a whole lot of trouble.
While Chicago enters play only a game below .500 at 19-20, the Cubs find themselves in fourth place in the NL Central. They are three games back of the arch-rival St. Louis Cardinals in the division. Only the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates are worse than them. Washington is 16-20 and in last place in the tight NL East standings. However, they only trail the New York Mets by three games.
With two struggling teams going at it, Schwarber knows anything could happen at Wrigley Field.
