Shohei Ohtani became MLB home run leader during Albert Pujols’ first at-bat with Dodgers
Shohei Ohtani decided to jump up the MLB leaderboards while Albert Pujols made his debut nearby.
The Los Angeles Angels made a bit of a surprise move by cutting Albert Pujols loose. Having stars like Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani in the lineup made that decision much easier.
The Los Angeles Dodgers decided to give Pujols a chance and he was in the lineup Monday night. In a weird twist, he and a former teammate came to the plate at almost the exact same time … with very different results.
Let’s start with Pujols’ forgettable first at-bat with his new team.
Albert Pujols and Shohei Ohtani have different results
Seeing Pujols in a Dodgers uniform does feel weird, but it is good he is able to continue his career. He also didn’t need to move very far to join this new team.
But the story here is what Ohtani did elsewhere in Southern California at the same time.
This man is unstoppable and actually drove a fastball that was several feet out of the zone. That gives the two-way star a league-leading 13 home runs on the year.
Both at-bats came right around 10:30 p.m. ET and both also provided some fanfare for very different reasons. However, there is also a difference in that the Angels are struggling to win while the Dodgers remain actual World Series favorites.
Both teams got what they wanted and Pujols is now on a quest to prove the Angels made a huge mistake. He even got an RBI single on his next at bat. But the Angels franchise may not even care as long as Ohtani is lighting up opposing pitchers at this rate.
