Every year, at least one college football team may have what it takes to go undefeated.
Last college football season ended with the Alabama Crimson Tide going undefeated en route to an impressive national championship.
Going undefeated is so difficult in the College Football Playoff era. Realistically, only two teams can pull it off at the FBS level at this time: The winner of the College Football Playoff and maybe the winner out of the Group of Five. That’s it. This because a Power Five team will make the four-team playoff field. While expansion must happen to get a Group of Five team in, they can go undefeated.
Here are the six teams with the best shot of going undefeated during this college football season.

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers are the best Group of Five team
2020 was a fantastic year for the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. They went 11-1 with their only defeat being to the Liberty Flames in the Cure Bowl. Given that they will not have to play Louisiana until the Sun Belt Championship game, Coastal Carolina could get to 12-0 if they beat teams like Buffalo, Arkansas State, Appalachian State and Troy. From there, it is all about their bowl matchup.

The Georgia Bulldogs may have the talent to navigate their toughest three games
I wouldn’t count on it, but the Georgia Bulldogs could have a dominant team this year. Their two toughest games are neutral-site affairs vs. Clemson in Charlotte and archrival Florida in Jacksonville. On the road vs. a rebuilding Auburn in early October could be tough. Georgia could get to Atlanta undefeated at 12-0. If they win the SEC Championship, Georgia is the favorite to win it all.

The Oklahoma Sooners can navigate Big 12 play without a single blemish
The Oklahoma Sooners know how to win the Big 12 better than anybody in recent memory. They can get through non-conference play undefeated. While they will have to beat talented teams like Iowa State, Texas and West Virginia, and the best of those three teams twice, Oklahoma can get to the College Football Playoff at 13-0. The problem remains in if they can win a single playoff game.
