3. Worst helmet in college football: Did Pitt ‘steel’ a logo

The Pitt steel helmet is weird to me. I applaud the thinking process here and getting a steel uniform for a school in the Steel City is cool and all but I think there was a real lack of creativity in the design process.

This kind of goes back to the introduction of this alternate Panther logo and how eerily similar it is to the Georgia State Panther logo. Now they aren’t exactly the same but if you’re watching a game on TV you might just think that’s the Georgia State Panther logo.

They essentially just slapped a knock-off Georgia State Panther logo on a concrete helmet and called it a day. Just poor execution on a really neat idea.

I think Pitt has had a lot of better Panther logos in their history, this one is probably the worst they have ever had.

2. Worst helmet in college football: Minnesota Yellow Gophers

Minnesota had a rough go in 2020 and these yellow helmets they wore vs Maryland were rough on my eyes. The Golden Gophers decided to wear a mustard yellow lid with the Minnesota “M” in white and it just made for a hideous look. The yellow just looks so bad with a white jersey and maroon numbers, an awful combination from the Gophers here. The Gophers have been aggressive in their helmet game in recent years, they’ve hit a lot and missed a lot. This was undoubtedly a miss and they should toss this one away and try again.

1. Worst helmet in college football: Kent State struggles

Kent State is having a rough go when it comes to the helmet game as of late. They’ve swung a lot and they’ve missed a lot. The oversized logo, it’s ugly. And then you see that the logo is filled in with one color and you just question, why? It’s such a bad look for Kent State. I actually really like the lightning bolt helmets they wore vs Bowling Green last season, the Chargers look is fantastic for them. Use that more, please. This oversized logo trend is poor and Kent State should ditch it ASAP.
