Cycling champion Gwen Inglis struck and killed while training by suspected DWI
Cycling champion Gwen Inglis was struck and killed in a tragic accident while training.
American national road cycling champion Gwen Inglis died after being struck by a suspected intoxicated driver on Sunday morning during a training ride.
Inglis was rushed to the hospital after being hit by a vehicle that drifted into the bike lane outside of Denver. She was 46 years old and the reigning USA masters cycling champion in the 45-49 age group.
On Wednesday, hundreds of cyclists rode in Inglis’ memory and gathered for a ghost bike dedication near the crash site.

Beloved by the Colorado cycling community, Inglis was known for her character off the bike.
“She consistently brought joy into all her relationships, and she openly accepted everyone,” the Bicycle Racing Association of Colorado said in a statement issued to The Associated Press.
The Lakewood Police Department arrested a 29-year-old man who has been charged with suspicion of vehicular homicide while driving under the influence.
Inglis is survived by her husband, Mike, who is also a national champion cyclist.
