Dolphins: 5 players who won’t be on the roster by Week 1
4. Clayton Fejedelem, safety
The Dolphins drafted Jevon Holland in the second round, which allowed them to cut Bobby McCain without consequence to the depth chart. Free agent signing Jason McCourty may become a cornerback/safety hybrid, and Miami also claimed rookie defensive back Trill Williams off waivers after he failed a physical with the Saints. They have also had interest in free agent safety Malik Hooker.
Fejedelem played mostly on special teams for Miami last year, with just 15 defensive snaps in 13 games. His role would be easy to fill, perhaps with someone like Brian Cole, but it’s really just a numbers game Fejedelem will ultimately lose in the coming months.
3. Mack Hollins, wide receiver
With five catches for 66 yards against the Chiefs in Week 14, on a team-high nine targets, Hollins had a featured role when the Dolphins were beset by wide receiver injuries. But he was otherwise irrelevant, with just 16 catches and a touchdown on 25 targets for the season.
The additions of Will Fuller and Jaylen Waddle will push Hollins further down the depth chart than he was in 2020. His special teams role may save him, but the Dolphins have Jakeem Grant or Malcolm Perry for that kind of a job and Grant returns kicks. Hollins is an easy odd-man out, and it may come quickly.
