It is an easy situation for both the Laker and the Warriors. Whoever wins the play-in round game on Wednesday clinches the seventh-seed, where they move on to face the No. 2 Phoenix Suns. As for the loser, they will have to face the winner of the Memphis Grizzlies-San Antonio Spurs game for the right to clinch the eighth seed and face the No. 1 Utah Jazz in the first round.

These two teams faced off three times in the 2020-21 campaign. The Warriors won the first matchup 115-113 while the Lakers took the series with 117-91 and 128-97 wins.

LeBron James will be active in the play-in round game after rolling his ankle in the regular-season finale against the New Orleans Pelicans . James, Anthony Davis and company will have to fend off the 2020-21 NBA scoring champion Stephen Curry if they want to secure their opportunity to repeat as NBA champions.
