Julian Edelman shuts down Tom Brady reunion hopes
By Scott Rogust
Recently retired wide receiver Julian Edelman once again shuts down the possibility of reuniting with quarterback Tom Brady.
Earlier this year, New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman announced his retirement from the NFL due to a knee injury. Even with the decisive video statement, the talk of him reuniting with quarterback Tom Brady on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers just won’t end. He even publicly responded on Twitter saying it is not happening.
Now, Edelman made it definitive during an appearance on the Michael Irving Podcast, saying that he is “a one team guy,” while saying that he is content on walking away from the game due to the amount of accomplishments he’s had over the years. You can listen to Edelman’s interview at the link above.
“My knees breaking down, I’m not gonna sit here, you know, I got everything I wanted,” Edelman said, via NFL.com. “I got three rings, played in a magical dynasty, with an unbelievable franchise coach, best quarterback of all time, like, yo, I’m not a greedy guy. I played to win, I played to compete, I don’t need anything else to prove. I’m good with what I did, I left it all out on the field.”
Julian Edelman shuts down potential reunion with Tom Brady
Reunion talk occurred ever since Brady signed with the Buccaneers last offseason, when the quarterback was able to get former Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski to come out of retirement to join him. The decision turned out well for Gronkowski, as it led to the Buccaneers winning Super Bowl 55. As for Edelman, his knee simply can not hold up.
Edelman had been with the Patriots organization since 2009, where he was selected in the seventh-round of the NFL Draft out of Kent State. Throughout his career with the Patriots, he hoisted three Lombardi Trophies and won Super Bowl 53 MVP, where he caught 10-of-12 targets for 141 yards in the team’s 13-3 win over the Los Angeles Rams.
In his career, Edelman has 620 receptions for 6,822 yards and 36 touchdowns to his credit through 137 regular-season games. In the postseason, Edelman caught 118-of-180 targets for 1,442 yards and five touchdowns through 19 games.
It does not get any more definitive than that. Sorry Buccaneers fans still holding out hope that a reunion with Brady would happen with the goal of making a dynasty in Tampa. It is not happening.
