Minnesota Twins slugger Miguel Sano hit a first-inning grand slam during the team’s second game of a doubleheader against the Los Angeles Angels.
The Minnesota Twins entered Thursday playing a doubleheader against the Los Angeles Angels. The first game went the Angels’ way, where they won 7-1 in seven innings. Once Game 2 began, Twins slugger Miguel Sano wanted to ensure his team would not get swept.
In the top of the first inning, Angels pitcher Griffith Canning loaded the bases on a double by Max Kepler and walks to Josh Donaldson and Jorge Polanco. Sano stepped into the batter’s box and crushed a grand slam to the left field bullpen, giving the Twins an early 4-0 lead.

What a “grand” way for the Twins to open up the game.
Unfortunately for Sano, the team’s four-run lead was reduced by one in the bottom of the first inning, following a leadoff home run by Jose Rojas off Twins starter Jose Berrios. Luckily, the team was able to escape the inning without further damage.
Following this grand slam, Sano now has seven home runs to his credit thus far in the 2021 campaign.
