The Memphis Grizzlies survived a late push from the Golden State Warriors thanks to a heroic overtime effort from Ja Morant.

The Warriors dynasty is not over, per say, as Klay Thompson will return next season and we can only guess what Joe Lacob and the Golden State front office have in mind after this disappointing exit. But this feels like a significant blow.

The Grizzlies did not have the average NBA viewer’s best interest at heart, nor the financial considerations of the league as a whole. Instead, Memphis will be heading to Utah for the 1-8 matchup in the NBA playoffs. Memphis won two games in a row — the first over the San Antonio Spurs — to cement their place in the playoffs.

NBA fans loved watching the Golden State Warriors miss the playoffs

The Warriors were just a few points short of beating the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night. Now, they’re out of the postseason entirely. The play-in tournament may not always produce the results Adam Silver is hoping for, but damn is it entertaining.

Warriors fans leaving early wasn’t necessarily a great look, either.

It’ll be a long offseason by the Bay, with Curry’s contract situation at the forefront. Looking to cash in one last time before his late-30’s, the Warriors will have to pay up to keep him a Golden State lifer.

In the span of 20 minutes, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and #FreeSteph were all trending, and it wasn’t for good reasons.

Make your jokes now. If we’ve learned anything, it’s that fate can change quite quickly in the modern NBA.
