NBA Twitter reacted to Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young’s Game 1-winning shot against the New York Knicks on Sunday.

The 2021 NBA Playoff reintroduced the crowds for the biggest games of the year. With the Atlanta Hawks clinching the fifth-seed in the Eastern Conference, they had to enter the rather raucous environment that was Madison Square Garden to face the fourth-place New York Knicks.

Throughout Game 1 on Sunday, Hawks guard Trae Young was hearing it from Knicks fans. But, he got the better of them late in the fourth-quarter, as he hit a clutch layup with 0.9 seconds remaining in regulation to clinch the 107-105 win. With Young shushing the Garden faithful after the shot, NBA Twitter reacted accordingly.

NBA Playoffs: How did Twitter react to Trae Young’s game-winner?

You could literally hear a pin drop inside Madison Square Garden following that shot, which is why Young was saying that it got awfully quiet. Young said that as he heard “f— Trae Young” chants throughout the contest, and they were left silent courtesy of Atlanta’s point guard.

This was Young’s playoff debut, and he played like a seasoned NBA veteran. Through 35 minutes of playing time, the Hawks guard scored 32 points (11-of-23 from field, 9-for-9 on free throws), dished out 10 assists and grabbed seven rebounds.

With this performance, Young is the first player to record 30+ points and 10 assists in their playoff debut since Derrick Rose did so back in 2009, per StatMuse. Ironically, Young accomplished this feat while facing against Rose on Sunday night, who recorded 17 points (8-for-16 from field), five assists and five rebounds in 38 minutes off the bench.

Young will look to further silence the loud New York crowd on Wednesday night with a Game 2 win. If so, he could be the second-coming of Reggie Miller for Knicks fans.
