Yermin Mercedes ducks directly into breaking pitch in scary moment (Video)

In what could’ve been a very scary moment for a Chicago White Sox team already dealing with injuries, Yermin Mercedes is okay after ducking directly into a curveball.
Looping breaking pitch or not, taking a 75 MPH plus pitch to the head is a painful experience.
It’s been a brutal week for Yermin Mercedes. First, the young slugger got in a classic baseball debate about the unwritten rules of the game. Mercedes dared to swing at a batting practice fastball from a position player on a 3-0 count in a blowout, hitting it to the parking lot in the process. The White Sox opponent, the Twins, were not happy about it. Neither was Mercedes’ own manager, Tony La Russa.
Mercedes took his payback a day later via a pitch thrown behind him by Twins reliever Tyler Duffey.
White Sox: Yermin Mercedes stays in the game after getting hit by pitch
Mercedes did not leave the game, but he did look shaken up after the play. Frankly, so would most after taking a pitch to the head and/or neck area.
Chicago is already dealing with injuries to Yoan Moncada and Eloy Jimenez. Any sort of ailment to Mercedes, one of the best stories of the baseball season so far, would be devastating to one of the better teams in the American League.
Here’s the hoping Mercedes is fine in the long run.
