The New York Mets latest injury update featured a whole bunch of bad news on Jeff McNeil, Michael Conforto and Carlos Carrasco.

The Mets can’t catch a break on the injury front.

General manager Zack Scott’s latest injury update on Jeff McNeil, Michael Conforto and Carlos Carrasco featured very little good news.

The trio will not be back until late June.

McNeil, the second baseman, landed on the 10-day injured list with a hamstring strain on May 17 along with Conforto, who left a loss to the Rays with discomfort the day before.

Despite being strains and not tears, hamstring injuries are still notoriously tricky to get over.

The Mets have dealt with serious injury troubles in 2021

Carrasco has yet to play for New York since he was traded in January from the Indians along with Francisco Lindor. He tore his hamstring during spring training. The wait for his debut has only gotten longer.

Neither McNeil nor Conforto were having exceptional 2021 seasons. The former averaged .242/.336/.374 before his injury. The latter was .230/.356/.336. Both are near career lows.

Unfortunately, being injured means they can’t work their way into a groove. The Mets will have to pin their hopes on them coming back and hitting the ground running for the summer.

It’s all made worse by the sheer number of injuries New York is dealing with right now. First baseman Pete Alonso and center fielder Kevin Pillar are also on the injured list along with Brandon Nimmo, J.D. Davis, Luis Guillorme and Albert Almora.

Carrasco is far from the only pitcher banged up at the moment. Jacob DeGrom, Noah Syndergaard, Taijaun Walker, Tommy Hunter, Dellin Betances and Stephen Tarpley are out or recovering from injuries.

At least there was some good news for the rotation on Monday. Seth Lugo is expected to return from elbow surgery in a week.
