Andrew Wiggins is playing for Team Canada in the Olympics

Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins will do his best to help Team Canada to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games this summer.

With the Golden State Warriors‘ 2020-21 regular season firmly in the review, forward Andrew Wiggins will be playing for his country’s team, as he hopes to get Team Canada into the 2020 Summer Olympic Games.

The Toronto native has played for Team Canada dating back to 2010 in his youth. The former No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft out of Kansas is one of many young NBA stars who have been influenced by the Vince Carter of the Toronto Raptors. With more NBA talent than most countries playing basketball, maybe this is the year Team Canada finally gets back into the Summer Games?

Canada is one of a handful of countries fighting for that last spot into the 12-team field for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games being played in Tokyo. Nations that have qualified already are host nation Japan, Argentina, Australia, France, Iran, Nigeria, Spain and of course, the United States of America. Canada will compete among the likes of Brazil, Italy and Lithuania for the last spots in.

Beginning on June 29, Canada will be in a group of 24 countries vying for the last four spots into the Olympic field in the 2020 FIBA Men’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments. Victoria, British Columbia is one of the four host cities for the Olympic qualifying tournament. Canada last qualified for the Olympics in 2000 when Summer Games were in Sydney. Team Canada finished seventh.

Maybe Wiggins and the rest of his countrymen can advance out of the qualifying rounds in July?
