Kyle Shanahan comments on possible Julio Jones reunion with 49ers
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has commented on his team potentially going out and trading for star wide receiver Julio Jones.
The NFL has been rocked this week with the update that Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones has asked the team to trade him. When he announced live on FS1’s ‘Undisputed’ that he wanted out of Atlanta, folks couldn’t believe it.
The fact of the matter is that Jones is looking for a fresh start elsewhere and several teams have been mentioned as potential trade destinations. Well, what about a reunion with Kyle Shanahan with the San Francisco 49ers? The head coach surely would be open to it.
Kyle Shanahan would surely love his offense to add Julio Jones
“We’re always interested in improving our team,” Shanahan said when asked about Jones. “I would never say we’re just done. It makes it harder when we’ve already given up stuff in other moves. Everything has to fit in and make sense.”
While that quote isn’t exactly glowing about San Francisco’s chances of adding Jones, make no mistake about it, the future Hall-of-Fame receiver would be a monster addition for the 49ers. When Jones is healthy, he’s no doubt one of the best receivers in the game.
Despite turning 32 years old in February, Jones hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down. In nine games last campaign, the 6-foot-3, 220-pounder hauled in 51 balls for 771 yards and three touchdowns. He and Matt Ryan have been quite the duo, but Jones is ready to catch balls from someone else. Could that be Jimmy Garoppolo starting this fall?
Who knows. Jones’ status for ’21 is completely up in the air, though we do know that he no longer wants to make plays in Atlanta. We’ll see if that ends up happening in the Bay Area instead.
