Alex Smith blasts the Packers for disrespecting Aaron Rodgers
Alex Smith didn’t mince words and called out the Green Bay Packers for how they’ve totally disrespected Aaron Rodgers.
If you think Green Bay Packers fans are the only ones upset at the team’s front office and Brian Gutekunst, that’s not the case whatsoever. You can add retired signal-caller Alex Smith to the long list.
While on ‘The Herd with Colin Cowherd,’ Smith went on to praise Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, but also didn’t hold back in completely blasting the Packers for how they’ve treated Rodgers. This is a future Hall-of-Fame quarterback we’re talking about here. Yet if you ask Smith, Green Bay is letting Rodgers down in a major way.
The Green Bay Packers have massively let down Aaron Rodgers over the years
“Aaron (Rodgers) has been there that long (16 years) and I don’t think it was that they drafted Jordan Love in the first round,” Smith said. “But how do you have a guy like Aaron and then you don’t go out of your way beforehand to make sure that he knows that he’s loved and that they want him there.”
While on ESPN with Kenny Mayne recently, Rodgers came out and said that it’s indeed not about the team drafting Love. More, it’s the fact that he doesn’t see a philosophy for the Packers moving forward. The fact that Green Bay didn’t communicate with Rodgers that they were going to select Love is something that also doesn’t sit well with Smith.
“From my understanding it was a bit of unknown, a bit blindsided (for Rodgers),” Smith said. “You go from potentially thinking maybe you’re taking a receiver, you’re thinking you’re a move away from the Super Bowl, and then blindsided with a pick (Love).”
During his interview with Cowherd, Smith said that back in 2017, the Chiefs front office went out of their way to be open and communicative with him about the team’s plans on potentially selecting Mahomes. Once that happened, it was no surprise for him.
As things stand, it’s completely up in the air if Rodgers will take the field once Week 1 rolls around. If he doesn’t and decides to retire instead, Smith will likely be ready to call out Green Bay’s front office once again.
