MLB bans former Mets manager, Angels pitching coach Mickey Callaway

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred has announced that Angels pitching coach Mickey Callaway has been banned from the bigs through the 2022 campaign. 

A bombshell of news has just been dropped by MLB and commissioner Rob Manfred. That’s because Los Angeles Angels pitching coach and former New York Mets skipper Mickey Callaway’s 2021 campaign has come to a close. Matter of fact, he won’t be able to get back on the diamond until 2023.

Manfred said that following the investigation on Callaway and the accusations of sexual harassment and mistreatment, he’s been banned from the game through the ’22 campaign. In addition, the Angels have announced that Callaway has been fired effective immediately.

“My family and I fully support MLB’s strong stance against harassment and discrimination and are grateful to the Commissioner and his office for their thorough investigation,” Callaway told ESPN in a statement. “I apologize to the women who shared with investigators any interaction that made them feel uncomfortable. To be clear, I never intended to make anyone feel this way and didn’t understand that these interactions might do that or violate MLB policies. However, those are my own blind spots, and I take responsibility for the consequences.”

In an article written by The Athletic, five women came forward and accused Callaway of sexual misconduct. Some of the accusations made against Calloway included inappropriate text messages, including him sending a shirtless photo.

Back in February, shortly after The Athletic released its report, the Angels suspended Callaway. Fast forward to late May, and they’ve decided to part ways with him completely. Callaway was with the Mets from 2018-19 before joining the Angels in 2020. Now, we won’t see him in a clubhouse until ’23 the earliest, should a club decide to give him another shot.
