Tyrann Mathieu wants the Chiefs to re-sign Bashaud Breeland
By John Buhler
Tyrann Mathieu is doing his part to help bring Bashaud Breeland back to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Bashaud Breeland remains unsigned very late into NFL free agency, and Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu knows how important he is to their defensive backfield.
The former Clemson standout had spent the last two seasons playing cornerback for the two-time defending AFC Champions. While he does not have anywhere near the acclaim of “The Honey Badger”, Mathieu recognizes how underrated “Breezy” is. Here he is at the podium on Thursday, hoping the Chiefs and Breeland’s camp can work out a contract for him to return to Kansas City.
Even if he wants to switch to Breeland’s No. 21, Mathieu would rather have him back in camp.
Kansas City Chiefs: Tyrann Mathieu wants Bashaud Breeland back on the team
Breeland is one of the bigger names still out there on the opening market. He recently took a visit to the Minnesota Vikings facility, but left Eagan without a contract, causing him to send out a cryptic tweet. Naturally, Chiefs Kingdom and Vikings fans are clamoring to get the starting cornerback signed before it is too late. He makes either team simply better upon his arrival.
Ultimately, we should expect Breeland to be signed before training camp commences across the league. He may have missed five games this past season due to violating the NFL‘s substance abuse policy, but Kansas City may not have gotten to Super Bowl 55 without him doing his thing in the defensive backfield. If Kansas City is going to three-peat in the AFC, they will need Breeland.
Look for Breeland to sign with the Chiefs or another NFL team within the next month or so.
