1. Attempt to trade John Wall

The Rockets had big money on the books with Harden and Russell Westbrook. That led to the team taking on John Wall’s massive contract in order to move Westbrook.

Wall was admittedly fine this season, albeit in only 40 games. He averaged over 20 points per game and was not a total shell of his former self.

But he will turn 31 years old in September and is not exactly a player to build around. Wall is also owed $44.3 million next season, with a $47.3 million player option in 2022-23. So how on Earth could the Rockets swing a trade?

That is the ultimate question, because Wall’s money could hold up a true rebuild. The Rockets may need to take on bad contracts or even send one of their many first-round picks to move on from Wall’s contract.

That player option may be the holdup in any trade given Wall’s age. He also has a rough injury history that teams may shy away from.

But the Rockets should at least try, even if it means sending some draft capital as well. There is no shortage of that in Houston, and they should use it to their advantage.
