The Chicago Bears are reportedly interested in bringing in cornerback Bashaud Breeland, a target the Minnesota Vikings covet.

It looks like the Bears are jumping back into the cornerback market, much to the potential chagrin of the Vikings.

According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, former Chiefs cornerback Bashaud Breeland is on Chicago’s radar.

Despite interest from other teams, the Bears may have a shot in this, considering Breeland didn’t sound particularly happy following his visit to the Vikings last week.

It would be quite the statement to get Breeland over Minnesota, strengthening the Bears while preventing a rival from getting better.

The Bears are looking to beat the Vikings to signing Bashaud Breeland

Breeland played two years with the Chiefs, both under a one-year contract, before landing in free agency. He started 26 of 27 games with two interceptions in each campaign.

The veteran cornerback has attracted suitors but hasn’t found a deal that works for him. The Bears could change that.

It’s not that cornerback is a huge need for Chicago. However, they could certainly use some insurance like Breeland after cutting Kyle Fuller.

The team signed Desmond Trufant as a free agent and have high hopes for sophomore cornerback Jaylon Johnson after a solid rookie campaign.

Even if Johnson takes the next step, Trufant probably isn’t enough to replace Fuller. There’s got to be concern about his 2020 injuries as the soon-to-be-31-year-old played in just six games.

Chicago used a sixth-round draft pick on Thomas Graham out of Oregon. He’s an intriguing prospect who could outperform that selection. That’s far from a certainty.

Breeland would be penciled in to at least compete with Trufant for the starting job. He’s been a regular starter for most of his career. At worst, he’d bolster depth.
