Packers veterans comment on Jordan Love’s performance at OTAs
By John Buhler
Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love has turned some heads during OTAs.
In his second year out of Utah State, former first-round pick Jordan Love has been impressing some key members of the Green Bay Packers organization during OTAs.
“You can tell he’s just a lot more comfortable out there, even from communicating in the huddle to the command of the huddle to just everything,” said running back Aaron Jones to ESPN. “He’s had a year under his belt, he’s had time to watch and learn, so you can tell it’s a little bit different from what it was before. He’s going to continue to grow, and I’m happy to be here working with him.”
Love did not play at all last year during his rookie season with the Packers. This was part of the plan, but it did create a rift internally between NFL MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay front office. This has led to Rodgers not being present during OTAs this year, as he is enjoying his time in Hawaii with fiancee Shailene Woodley and his close friend Miles Teller, among others.
What should we make of Jones’ comments about Love progressing in his second year in the NFL?

While having the team’s star running back speak glowingly about him is one thing, having head coach Matt LaFleur harp on his development and maturity is another. Whenever the Packers do decide to move on from Rodgers, LaFleur will be the head coach during Love’s first season as the starter. Though Love is far from a finished product, LaFleur’s comments on him are very positive.
“He’s definitely matured over the course of the year,” said LaFleur. “You can tell that he’s put in the time this offseason, not only just lifting and running and coming in in good football shape, but also you can tell he’s put in the time in his craft in trying to continue to work on his mechanics, his fundamentals that are so critical to playing the position at the highest level possible.”
“So he’s still got a lot to learn. I think he can tell you that, but he’s going to take it one day at a time. He goes out there with purpose. I like his mindset right now.”
Ultimately, it would be a bigger deal to not hear this type of glowing praise out of the Packers than for them to be mum on Love during OTAs, especially with Rodgers not being there. Love was always going to be a project quarterback for the Packers, but it does seem like he is progressing after a challenging rookie season for him. Maybe we’ll see what Jones and LaFleur see some day?
OTAs don’t seem like much, but these are precious reps that Love can absolutely build on this year.
