San Diego Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. found a new way to avoid being hit by a pitch against the Houston Astros. He did the splits.

Is there anything Fernando Tatis Jr. can’t do?

He hits. He bat-flips with the best of them. He makes defensive plays. He runs the bases.

Now he does the splits over home plate.

The fact that broadcaster Geoff Blum threw in a Michael Jackson “hee hee” only made it better.

A screenshot of the moment shows the wild contortion.

It happened in the top of the eight with two men on with an 0-2 count. He didn’t look harmed by the ball or the stretch, but he still struck out swinging on the next pitch.

Physical feats are Fernando Tatis Jr.’s specialty

This isn’t the first time Tatis Jr. has showed off his ability to do the splits. Last week he pulled a Simone Biles with a full split to keep his foot on the bag at second base. It was an impressive showing as well.

Doing the splits while baserunning is cool and all, but dropping like it’s hot at the plate to avoid a pitch is a whole new level. It’s just not something you see very day at a baseball park. Tatis Jr. has a way with producing those kind of highlights.

Aside from producing regular jaw-dropping moments, Tatis Jr. is having a great year for the Padres in his third season. He’s batting .302/.378/.698. That slugging percentage is the best in the major leagues. He also leads the NL in stolen bases and ranks fifth in MLB with 14 home runs.

With Tatis Jr. chasing MVP honors again this year, San Diego has taken hold of first place in the NL West and it doesn’t look like they’re going to give it up any time soon.
