The Dallas Mavericks lost Game 3 of their first-round matchup with the LA Clippers, and NBA Twitter took it out on Kristaps Porzingis.

If there’s one thing NBA Twitter revels in together, it’s the LA Clippers failing in the playoffs. For whatever reason, from the days of Lob City to “Pandemic P,” nothing unites the other 29 fanbases quite like seeing the Clippers fall short.

So after the Dallas Mavericks stole both road games against LA in their first-round matchup of the 2021 NBA Playoffs, Game 3 became the biggest game in Clippers franchise history — not only to keep their title aspirations alive by avoiding falling into an 0-3 hole, but also for the potential slander they would’ve received if they had lost.

Fortunately for Los Angeles, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George both stepped up big-time, responding after the Mavs put them in an early 28-11 hole fueled by Luka Doncic’s brilliance. NBA Twitter was impressed but also irked they were deprived of the chance to ridicule the Clips, who tanked the last couple of regular-season games to avoid a potential matchup with the Los Angeles Lakers.

That meant they had to redirect their jokes somewhere, and Kristaps Porzingis immediately became the scapegoat.

Finishing his night with 9 points, 4 assists and 3 rebounds on 3-of-10 shooting, Porzingis wasn’t the only Mavericks role player who failed to show up, but his absence was certainly the easiest one to notice. Dallas gave up considerable assets to trade for him back in 2019, and the franchise had high hopes for him becoming a second pillar alongside Luka Doncic.

Doncic did his part in Game 3, racking up 44 points, 9 assists and 9 rebounds on 15-of-28 shooting (including 7-for-13 from deep), but Porzingis was a detriment to his team.

NBA Twitter as absolutely ruthless because of it:

The Mavs are still up 2-1 in the series and could put the Clippers in a bind with a Game 4 win at home. But in Game 3, when they had a chance to deliver a potentially fatal blow, Porzingis and most of the other role players failed to step up.
