Lakers give injury update for Anthony Davis heading into Game 5
By John Buhler
Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis’ status for Game 5 vs. the Phoenix Suns is in jeopardy.
After being adamant about playing in Game 4 on Sunday afternoon, Anthony Davis may not be able to give it a go for the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 5 of their best-of-seven series vs. the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday night.
Davis was limited to only 19 minutes of action in Sunday afternoon’s defeat to Phoenix. The Suns took Game 4 100-92 to take back home-court advantage in this best-of-seven series. While Game 5 is not a must-win for the Lakers, it does put a ton of pressure on Los Angeles to get it done in potentially their three remaining games vs. a Pacific Division rival. They may not make it.
If the Lakers do not have a healthy Davis throughout the rest of the series, they are in big trouble.
Los Angeles Lakers: Anthony Davis’ Game 5 status does not bode well for him
A strained groin will at the very least limit Davis’ overall effectiveness should he be able to stick it out and play in Game 5. He is listed as day-to-day with the injury, but the Lakers go as he goes in this best-of-seven series. Davis played terribly in Game 1’s loss and had to exit prematurely Sunday in the Lakers’ Game 4 defeat. The Lakers need him to win two of their next three games.
Phoenix has the better roster than the Lakers, but Los Angeles has greater star power in Davis and LeBron James. That is why if Davis and James are near full-strength, it is incredibly difficult for the on-the-rise Suns to beat them head-to-head. However, a depleted Lakers squad significantly tips the scales in Phoenix’s favor. If they take Game 5 without Davis available, they may win the series.
Though the Lakers can win Games 6 and 7 to advance, Game 5 is starting to feel like a Lakers loss.
