New York Yankees shortstop Gleyber Torres completely missed the first base bag on this throw.

New York Yankees fans are hoping New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is more accurate throwing the ball this fall than Gleyber Torres was on this terrible error on a routine grounder.

While it looked like Torres was composed when he made his throw towards first base, he ended resembling Christian Hackenberg on this fastball that went nowhere near its intended target. New York entered play on Memorial Day 4.5 games back of the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East standings. Another loss to the Rays on Monday  would only make things worse for the Yankees.

This ball certainly sailed away from Torres and into the seats behind first base at Yankee Stadium.

The quickest way to not gain ground on a division leader is to make dumb plays like this in the field. A bad starting rotation or a leaky bullpen can be other culprits too, but giving a team like the Rays an extra out in an inning usually proves costly. With only five postseason spots available in the American League this season, how sure are we the Yankees get one of them at this point?

Ultimately, the Yankees have ample time to get things right this season. However, it looks like the defending AL Champions are no joke once again. Even if one player on the Yankees makes more than the entire Rays payroll, Tampa Bay always finds a way to win. As long has he does not become Chuck Knoblauch, expect Torres to not have another bad throw to first like this for a while.

It does not matter where you watch a game, bad throws are ever-present in the Tri-State Area.
