Javier Baez homering to ‘Javy’ chant is another marquee moment in Cubs career
By John Buhler
Javier Baez hits a home run for the Chicago Cubs fans while they chant “Javy”.
In the battle of the shortstops, Javier Baez’s Chicago Cubs won out over Fernando Tatis Jr.’s San Diego Padres on Memorial Day, 7-2.
Baez went 2-for-4 at the plate with two home runs and three runs batted in. He proved to be the difference in this ball game vs. the visiting Friars. Chicago had the best May record in baseball entering the final day of the month on Memorial Day. To hear the Wrigley Field crowd cheer on Baez before he connected on another home run was nothing short of spectacular. It was amazing.
Baez has been a big reason behind the Cubs’ outstanding month of May this 2021 MLB season.

Chicago improved to 30-23 on the year after beating the Padres on Memorial Day. The Cubs are doing their very best to keep pace with the arch rival St. Louis Cardinals in a tight NL Central race. A terrible April is the only reason the Cubs are not sitting comfortably atop the divisional standings. The good news is this team looks to be one of the best teams in the National League.
Baez and Kris Bryant were potential trade pieces for the Cubs if played terribly heading into the trade deadline. While an awful April may have hinted at a complete teardown of this team, with the way things have gone for the Cubs in May, they might be buyers at the deadline in a few weeks for all we know. What we do know is Cubs fans have a great appreciation for Baez.
With a second home run on the afternoon, all is good for Baez up in Chicagoland these days.
