Pro Football Focus’ jokes

Sometimes you have to just laugh at a good Twitter burn. So when Roethlisberger saw Pro Football Focus’ tweet about him throwing passes to new running back Najee Harris, even he may have had to chuckle at the joke.

Roethlisberger’s ability to hit the deep ball was a talking point throughout 2020. It’ll remain one in 2021.

The thing is, PFF has been among the harshest in evaluating Roethlisberger’s ability. Unfortunately for them, their own numbers work in Roethlisberger’s favor.

Chris Adamski of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review pointed out after the PFF tweet that only three quarterbacks attempted more passes of more than 20 yards last season. Roethlisberger can still throw deep, though he does need to improve his downfield accuracy. Considering the fact that he was still working his way back from a season-ending elbow injury, it’s unfair to write him off completely on that front.

It’ll also help that the Steelers have a plan to revive their rushing attack with Harris. This time around, Roethlisberger will have less of the offense on his shoulders. Ideally, he’ll have more time in the pocket and the defense will be kept more honest.
